Debt can weigh down a person’s entire life. And often, it doesn’t start with recklessness, but with life itself: an illness, a job loss, a breakup. Then interest and late fees cause the debt to grow and grow—until no one can bear it anymore. Does it have to be this way in the future, too?
With Gradido, debt stops growing
Today, we’re pleased to present the second part of our three-part study: the conclusion of the Personal debt — the majority of all debt. Our answer is surprisingly simple: The debt is not forgiven, but rather converted. A one-euro loan becomes a Gradido loan with no interest—one-to-one. Without interest, the debt stops growing.
The bank is changing, too
It is driven by the interest rate business to the Intermediary, which carefully balances savings and borrowing needs. Most of the debt is resolved quite easily—and the small, difficult remainder is, at the same time, the most important from a human perspective.
What breaks people today becomes bearable—and dissolves
After all, behind every case of excessive debt there is always a person, not just a number: often just a few thousand euros in debt with an income at the poverty line—and yet enough to shatter a life. In the Gradido system, the absence of interest on debt strips it of its destructive force, and the Active Basic Income provides a safety net so that no one falls into the abyss anymore. What today destroys livelihoods becomes bearable—and eventually disappears.
Like Part 1, this study is also freely available in German and English. You don't need to be familiar with economics—even the short summary is worth a look.

And if it resonates with you, please share it with others. That’s how Gradido becomes a reality—when people like you learn about it and spread the word.
Part 1 (on national debt) kicked things off a few days ago; Part 3 (Gradido as a global reserve) will follow shortly. Together, they convey a single, wonderful message: The path to a world where everyone can thrive is open—for us, our children, and the generations to come.
With warm regards,
Yours
